In order to be truly effective, skills must be generalized across contexts. BASIC provides comprehensive services that allow individuals to improve the quality of their life through independent living skills, behavior modification, speech services, social skills training, tutoring and adult services.
BASIC is modeled following the Beacon Day School standards of excellence. Beacon utilizes a transdisciplinary approach and best practices, relying on evidence-based education and integrating the professional wisdom of our highly experienced staff with the best available empirical evidence available in order to make the best decisions about the delivery of instruction. Staff members include psychologists, doctoral level behavior analysts, and other experts in the field.
Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the foundation on which BASIC programs are built. ABA based interventions help to increase positive outcomes in learning, social skills building, generalization and adaptive behavior. ABA techniques are often used in the treatment of autism and related disorders to improve the student's ability to acquire and integrate knowledge from their environment, school, family, friends and community.
Our behavior interventionists understand the behavior-environment relationship and implement ABA-based techniques throughout a variety of settings. Changing behavior, in any setting, is often challenging. The challenge is in knowing what to do and how do it. BASIC meets this challenge daily by creating a meaningful and vibrant learning environment that helps the children to obtain more effective ways of communicating with, adapting to, and interacting with their peers, their families, and within their communities.
